Into the Woods

Into the Woods (2023-2024) is an outdoor site-specific art project created by Laurie Lambrecht at the Nassau County Museum of Art, with the support of a 2023 Project Grant from NYSCA and the fiscal sponsorship of NYFA.

Into the Woods consists of outdoor installations and accompanying educational workshops on the woodland grounds of the museum. The installations featured several outdoor tapestries, woven from found, recycled, and natural materials, displayed on tree trunks. Additionally, printed cloth banners of tree bark imagery were wrapped around tree trunks and installed in the Manes Education Center courtyard.

The project also included three community workshops led by Laurie Lambrecht, geared towards artists of different ages, levels, and abilities. The workshops focused on creating weavings and wrapping branches with colorful recycled wool. Participants assembled the wrapped branches along the Museum’s Pinetum trail to create a collaborative sculpture.
