Into the Woods

Coming fall of 2023, Into the Woods is an outdoor site-specific art project to be created by Laurie Lambrecht in the woodland area of the Nassau County Museum of Art, with the support of NYSCA and the fiscal sponsorship of NYFA.

Into the Woods will consist of outdoor installations and accompanying educational workshops on the beautiful grounds of the museum. The installations will feature 2 large, out-door tapestries, woven from found, recycled and natural materials, hung among the trees. Additionally, there will be printed banners on cloth of tree bark imagery wrapped around tree trunks. There will be one sculpture made with community participation consisting of tree branches wrapped in colorful wools and assembled among the trees. Lambrecht will guide interested people, young and old to wrap sticks to build the work, and present an artist talk at the Museum about the project.

This project is relevant now as the urgency to care for the natural environment beckons. Creating with recycled or repurposed materials feels satisfying as draws attention to our surrounding surplus. We also are in a phase that being together outdoors has become more desirable and important for socializing in this time of frequent quarantining.
